Fix It and Forget It Cookbook: Feasting with Your Slow Cooker

Fix It and Forget It Cookbook: Feasting with Your Slow Cooker
By Dawn J. Ranck and Phyllis Pellman Good
ISBN-10: 1561483176 ISBN-13: 978-1561483174

‘The Fix It and Forget It Cookbook’ is part of a series of crock pot or slow cooker cookbook. The book is a collection of home cooks recipes gathered by the authors in the style of a community cookbook. People either love or hate this this cookbook there isn’t much middle ground.

Many of the people who love it are time and budget strapped and thrilled to have a home made meal on the table. Many of the people who hate it think it’s a poor collection recipes with overly processed ingredients that shouldn‘t even be considered home made. There are some from scratch recipes but they are simply scattered among other, no so healthy recipes.

With over 800 recipes the ‘Fix It and Forget It Cookbook’ includes recipes for everything from soups and stews, pastas and casseroles, veggie sides and mains to bread and cakes- yes all to be made in your crock pot.

It’s great for common meals and great if you want ten recipes for the same dish. The authors say they have ‘weeded out a lot of duplicates” but there are still handfuls of recipes to make the same dishes. But there is no description of the recipes or how they vary from each other nor are there pictures to help you decide which one to try.

There is no discussion of the technique of using the slow cooker or crock pot. Yes, there are some tips scattered throughout the book but they are not well organized. The index is by recipe name and recipes are often named after the contributor and not the actual dish or ingredients. For example you might find chicken wings under ‘M’ for Mary’s chicken wings.

If your looking for healthy from scratch home cooking recipes that do well in the crock pot you should keep looking.

If your looking for a cookbook to help you get dinner on the table every night with as little time and fuss as possible you’ll love this book.
