Romanian Hamburgers

by Ron
(Colorado, US)

This is a spicy change from regular hamburgers that my Romanian grandfather taught me to make. They are great for backyard barbecues and make great meatballs too.

Romanian Hamburger Recipe
2 pounds ground beef chuck or round
2 cloves garlic or more to taste, minced
4 fresh green chili peppers, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
6-8 tablespoons of butter

Put the meat in a large bowl and add the minced garlic and peppers. If you can’t find chili peppers you can add chili powder instead. Add salt and pepper to taste and mix it all together.

Form into six to eight hamburgers and grill or boil them until done. Top each burger with a tablespoon of butter and cheese if you want. Serve with toasted buns and all the trimmings.

We usually double or triple the recipe when ground beef goes on sale and freeze the extra. Thaw meat before cooking.

Michelle's Reply: Chilis in your burgers, what a great way to spice it up. If you shape the burgers before freezing they will thaw a lot faster than a two-four pound block of meat. Thanks for sharing!
